One year old TOBY came to us as an owner surrender in the Yosemite area. He and his companion Ranger were spending much of their time kenneled outside because an older Weimaraner on the property was not so enthused about sharing his space. Fortunately the owner realized that re-homing the two would be best for them and contacted us.
Toby seems to really be enjoying life out side a kennel and is learning leash skills in his foster home. He is young, and will need to be socialized and go though some basic obedience training. He will do well in an active home, possibly another dog companion, and plenty of love. Toby was recently neutered....as you see him wearing his donut in the picture. Adoption Pending! Charlie was surrendered to NCWR because his family was moving and they were unable to take him. He is an adorable and sweet two year old "puppy at heart"! Yes, he loves to play like a puppy, but he also needs some basic obedience training! The good news is that he is a fast learner, and loves following a good routine. We always love adopters that enroll in obedience classes, as it's also a fun activity for you and your new family member, and helps with the bonding process!
Charlie tends to pull hard when on a collar and leash only, but does so much better with a chest harness. His recall is fairly good, unless he's preoccupied with something. These are two areas that will see great improvement with training. He loves toys, but may love your socks even more . So watch out! Most often he will relinquish his treasure for a good treat though. Charlie has done well with the other dogs in the foster home. He's been curious about the chickens at the property, but has not been exposed to cats. In true Weim fashion, he loves to cuddle with his humans! If you are looking for an enthusiastic and affectionate young Weim to share your home with, Charlie may very well be that boy! Children in the home must be over 10 years old. No cats. Daily exercise is necessary. If you live out of the area, you must agree to travel to meet him. BOWIE is a handsome, 2 year old purebred grey male Weimaraner that came to NCWR with his female littermate, Piper. The previous owners had to move and were unable to take them along. Both were living outside so they needed to learn to be inside dogs.
So far, no complaints from Bowie, who's wondering how he won the lottery and does not remember entering it! He did really well in their first foster home while both he and Piper were recuperating from their neuter and spay surgeries. Since going to their new foster home, Bowie does great on leash walks...which can be quite slow because he loves to stop and sniff everything! He loves, loves, loves stopping at Starbucks for a Puppuccino! Neither he nor Piper are reactive to other dogs, and seem to love people. Since he is still so new to inside living, and is also so young, he will get at all kinds of things not meant for him, so anything that could be interesting to him needs to be put up, just like having a new puppy around. He has learned to use a doggie door, which really helps! We would love for Bowie and Piper to stay together, but if that can't happen, we do want him to have another female dog friend in the home. The two start playing in the early morning, and we want to make sure they both have the companionship in their lives. We were told both did ok with cats, and there was a cat in the first foster home. We like to err on the side of caution when it comes to cats, and suggest that any new home do the same should we approve you. Children in the home must be 10 years or older. Young Weims need a lot of exercise, so please be prepared to get him out daily! Training would also be very beneficial. We will share updates as we get them. Two year old PIPER is a purebred, blue female Weimaraner. She came to NCWR with her littermate, Bowie. Their previous owners had them since they were puppies, but had to move and were unable to take them along. Both Piper & Bowie lived outside in large kennels on their farm. While Bowie was much quicker to accept inside living, Piper was reluctant to enter the home. In her first foster home, slowly but surely she moved further inside, and seems to love everything about it now!
She loves going for long walks, and does pretty good on the leash. Piper and her brother, Bowie, love playing non-stop. We would love to keep them together, but realize that may not be able to happen. In that case, Piper will need another dog friend in the home. Both Piper and Bowie seem to love people, and do fine with other dogs. In the foster home, they have learned to use the doggie door, which is great! Not so great....an adopter will need to realize she is new to inside living, and keep tempting items, food, etc, out of her reach. We are looking for an active home, where she can get the exercise a young Weim needs and deserves. Training would be a big benefit. Children must be over 10 years old. Cats: We were told both did ok with them. They did fine in the first foster home with their cat. We tend to err on the side of caution and don't recommend cats in the home with unknown dogs. Coming Soon! This week NCWR will be welcoming 8 year old BREE. Sadly, she lost her human recently, and will need to find a new home. We know that she is healthy, super sweet, and needs some exercise to lose some extra weight. She is used to living with a smaller dog and does well. Children and cats are unknown. Adoption Process
We strive to post most dogs that we intake on social media as well as our website. Once a dog is posted as “available for adoption” we will ask for applications for that particular dog. We will review, interview, and select the adopter most suitable for that Weimaraner’s needs. Due to constraints in volunteer availability, we may not be able to interview every applicant for every dog.

Application and Approval
You must complete the entire application and approval process before meeting any of our rescue dogs. This process consists of completing an application using the button below, a phone interview, and a home visit (during the pandemic, we’ll ask for photos of your yard instead).
For the safety of adopting families and our rescue dogs, we do not place dogs in homes with children under 10 years old unless it is a puppy or the dog has a known, positive history of living with babies & toddlers.

- vigorous exercise every day
- lots of family activity
- a minimum of a small potty yard attached to the house with a 6 foot high fence

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees vary per adoption, ranging from $0 to $700 depending on many factors but primarily the dog’s age. Sometimes we need to spend very little on vet care, rehab etc. and sometimes we spend thousands to give a Weim a chance at a happy life.
If we based our fees on our costs for each dog respectively, young healthy dogs with small fees would be quite easy to place. Older dogs with issues and huge fees however would be very hard to place. Similar to insurance, our fee structure spreads our costs over all our rescues to make sure every dog finds a forever home.

Ashley was returned to our rescue when her beloved owner passed away. She is in a hospice foster home, living out her life in comfort and receiving palliative veterinary care for cancer.
