Available Weims in Northern CaliforniaEven though you don’t see your perfect dog here today, don’t despair. We constantly get new dogs. Many dogs never post to our site as the right, approved home is waiting when the dog comes to us. It is important to become home-approved to be on that list.
We cannot place dogs in homes with kids younger than 10 years old. Weimaraners can be too rambunctious for young children. |
Our perfect rescue home is one where the dog will have little or no alone time, good daily exercise and Weimaraner experience. If your dog will be alone more than a minimal amount of time, we will not place a dog with you.
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
Maxine and Zena are bonded girls that are being surrendered after the family suffered a tragic and unexpected loss. This left only one member to care for them who needs to be out of home too often, as the girls like to have company as much as possible, though they do crate for short periods. Both are housebroken.
We would love to place the girls together but will consider homes for each as well. MAXINE Maxine is a NCWR pup that was adopted out last year and is about five years old. She came to us originally as a shelter dog, but after spending some time in foster, we realized that she has some insecurities and will also potentially resource guard her human she bonds to in the home. As a result, she bit a foster. We are looking for a new home where someone is willing to spend time working on her confidence and create a safe space while reinforcing obedience and gentle training. She tends to have initial issues with men more than women; we can only suspect why. As we sometimes say with dogs that have unknown histories, they are the product of their human experiences so far. The goal for our group is to help dogs like Maxine learn they can trust people and new situations--and she’s made huge improvements in placement and foster. Maxine is an exceptionally loving dog. Although she is slow to trust when change happens, she ultimately forms close relationships with her humans. The family that adopted her had absolutely no issues with her resource guarding or any fear nipping of any kind, but she will need a new home that allows her time to settle in and learn to trust during her adjustment. She LOVES to play fetch and snuggle with you and does well with other friendly dogs. Maxine walks well on a leash, loves to go for car rides, and has great energy for hikes or runs. We can not consider placing Maxine in homes with children and her history with cats is unknown. ZENA Miss Zena is about seven years old. She was also taken in by the same family after having been bred multiple times and subsequently attacked by the breeders’ other dogs. It took a while for her undercarriage to shrink but her emotional state to expand. She does well with other friendly dogs that won’t be overly dominant with her. She has become more relaxed and outgoing with Maxine around but is a shy girl at times. She loves going in the car and as you can see needs lots of exercise to shed some of her excess weight. She recently had a full vet exam and labs and is otherwise very healthy. Zena’s New Year resolution is just like the rest of us—get out and do things and drop last year’s COVID weight! She is about 80lbs now but her ideal weight should be about 65lbs and we’ve already begun working on that. Zena has been around children as young as eight and is unknown with cats. She will be getting a dental cleaning done soon. |
Molly will be looking for her home soon! She is a very sweet senior - about 10 years old and an easy keeper. Tragically, she lost both of her humans and needs a new home to spend her golden years. She is currently in one of NCWR's fabulous foster homes, where she is working on losing some weight and addressing a couple of health concerns. Molly is spayed and up to date on vaccines. We are working on getting her a dental. She was just diagnosed with Cushing's and her symptoms are mild, so we don't anticipate her condition impacting her quality of life or longevity. We are working with her vet to treat her Cushing's holistically, rather than costly medications that are not without side effects.

Javi is looking for his forever home for the holidays!
Javi came to us as a very unsocialized puppy. Unfortunately, this meant he was reactive on a leash and very agitated, often getting overwhelmed when out and about, especially around other dogs. Javi has made great strides by spending some quality time with our trainer and fosters. He’s proven that he’s very willing and capable of learning (especially with high value rewards), but it will take time to practice these skills. He responds best to structure where he understands the rules and what is expected of him, along with equal amounts love and patience. Javi is excellent with well-behaved kids. He loves to play and wrestle with other nice dogs; a home with a well-adjusted pal he can play and walk with would be ideal for him. He will need a proper introduction to all dogs. We are ideally looking for a home with a Weimaraner experienced family that is committed to his training and lots of exercise. Till now, he’s been fostered in a busier city setting; we would like him to find a place with a quieter neighborhood to continue to work on leash walking skills and it is not so stressful for him. If you think you’re the perfect home for this beautiful young boy, he will reward his owner with endless opportunities for cuddles and affection. |
RECENT PLACEMENTS
Han Solo came to us late last summer with cataracts as well as exhibiting some seizure activity. It took months to stabilize the seizures and complete the required eye specialist consultation and testing. This wonderful boy finally received his cataract removal surgery in early December. Han’s foster family officially adopted him on Christmas day!
From an outdoor property dog that was blind-- to a young Weim that can see again--it's been an amazing journey for this handsome, sweet guy. All of this was made possible with an outpouring of financial support from our Weim community as well as that of his fosters' business in order to raise the necessary funds to cover the surgery. We can't thank you enough! |
Dear Oliver is being adopted by the family of his dreams. He is one year old and is a big boy that loves to play like a puppy! His new family consists of work from home Mom and two grown human kids with whom he will enjoy bonding by going for long walks, playing at the park and practicing obedience training. However, his favorite family member is an 18-month-old Sheep Doodle - Oliver's new canine sibling. The two youngsters love to play and roughhouse nonstop....Yes, a tired dog is a happy dog. Good boy Oliver! You landed in paradise!

Sadly, Gus was given up by his previous family who had given him to a friend. But great news for him, the person that received him knew just who to call to find him a wonderful home. This sweet guy loves to play and get the zoomies like most puppies--but unlike most of the dogs we get, he seemed to really like cats! Good news for his new family who had been waiting many, many months for a young dog that would not only peacefully coexist with their Ragdoll kitty but also play when the cat wants to play! Win-win! Gus, now known as Ody (short for Odysseus), will get tons of attention from his work from home dad, his son, and has a new buddy that looks almost as big as he is. He will enjoy all the trails and beach play near their Pleasanton area home. Congratulations Ody!

Midna's family could no longer care for her after they had a baby, and opted to reach out so that we could find her a wonderful new home that can handle that puppy energy with little alone time. We had someone waiting who had kitties as she does really well with them. She's now enjoying the great outdoors on hikes and runs in beautiful Pollock Pines!

Penny's family could no long keep her, so they made the difficult decision to contact NCWR to help. Of course, we were happy to help! Fate also stepped in....Her new family had lost their dear canine family member and had just decided it was time to heal their hearts and adopt a new furry family member. Penny is up to the challenge of filling that void and keeping her new mom and dad busy and entertained with love, laughter fun and activity. Good girl, Penny!

Beautiful Buddy had found himself in a shelter. That was when his luck changed.....NCWR stepped up and helped. First stop: One of NCWR's fabulous foster homes. Buddy's foster family succumbed to his handsomeness and charm. Last stop: Same as the first stop....his amazing foster family adopted him. Buddy now calls Mom, Dad and 3 children "home." We are so happy Buddy is home for the Holidays! Congratulations Buddy!

Buck's owner's job required that he travel extensively, so he contacted NCWR for help finding Buck a home where he could continue getting the time, attention and love that Buck was used to. Of course, we were happy to help! Handsome Buck was adopted by one of our wonderful past adopters, who had recently lost his dog. Buck now enjoys living in beautiful San Francisco and gets lots of attention, exercise and activities. We are so happy for Buck!

Dear Gracie came to us from the streets of Mexico. First step was to one of NCWR's fabulous foster homes, where she proved herself to be the sweetest of the sweet! Gracie was very much in need of a dental, so NCWR made that a reality. Then, with her new toothy smile, Gracie was adopted by one of our amazing volunteers and past adopters. She now enjoys life with Dad, work from home mom and canine brother, Buster. Congratulations Miss Gracie!

Tequila and Paco came to us from a shelter after their owner dropped them off. We brought them into the Nor Cal Weim fold as a bonded pair and believe they were likely littermates about two years old; both pups exhibited some leash reactivity but were otherwise very sweet and friendly.
Sadly, a vet exam and testing revealed that Tequila had a hemangiosarcoma on her shoulder. Originally the plan was to amputate the leg, but further scans revealed the cancer had spread to other organs, including her liver and spleen. Tequila lived out the remainder of her life with a wonderful foster family who took phenomenal care of her and made sure she knew nothing but kindness and love. We can’t save them all, but we can make sure that they live the rest of their lives in palliative care knowing they are valued family members. NCWR can’t thank our foster family enough for stepping up to be there for her as it could not have been easy for them. RIP sweet girl. On a happier note, her handsome brother Paco (now aptly named “Beau”), met his forever family while at our trainer’s home! He is living his best life and we are so happy to report that even when dressed as a turkey, he’s enjoying each day to the fullest! He gets all the adventure, exercise and cuddles a young pup could possibly need. Congratulations Beau! |

NCWR responded to an ad on Craigslist advertising two 10 month old littermates. Their owner was moving & could not take them. Toby's new life is magical with a home in Pacifica & a second vacation home in South Lake Tahoe. Toby is living his best life as a beach dog with his new housemate Pepper, a 2 1/2 year old Dobie girl. They are best buds & his partner in crime! Toby, Pepper & family will have many walks during the week & beach romps on the weekends. Mom says that Toby is a friendly & easy going boy!

Remi was purchased from a breeder as a puppy but her surrendering owner recently went back to work full time & Remi was being neglected. Remi’s new Dads were looking for a new companion after losing their 14 year-old boy Finley. They lost no time making plans to fly to California from Oregon to have Remi join their family. Remi is already snuggling with her new Dads & loves the beach & her 4 walks a day! Dad says they are so thankful to have found Remi… she is super sweet & quick to learn. Have a fabulous life Remi!
