ADOPTION PENDING! Dallas is a very sweet ONE year old Male Weimaraner. He has been in one of NCWR’s fabulous foster homes. His foster mom says that Dallas loves all people and is getting along well with his foster sister. Dallas enjoys playing with toys. He has been working on basic obedience and has learned “sit” in a short amount of time, so training should be fun and easy! His foster mom describes him as “very smart and is a quick learner. He loves going for walks, but does pull on leash. He does not seem to have separation anxiety (not destructive and does not bark) when left home with his foster sister. Dallas has no experience with very small children. So, kids in his forever home should be age 10 or older. He has no experience with cats, so a home without kitties is required. Dallas is thin and we are working on normalizing his weigh. He has seen a vet and is in good health. After he puts on some weight, we will have him neutered. His vaccines are up to date and he is heart worm negative.

This pretty girl is searching for her forever home! Hershey, as her foster dad has affectionately named her, may just be the perfect name for her! She’s sweet as candy…and always ready for some Hershey Kisses! Hershey has been in her wonderful foster home for a couple weeks now, and we’ve learned a lot, while she’s been busy getting pampered.
Hershey is estimated to be about 6 to 7 years old. Since she was found stray in the Central Valley, we don’t know a lot on her past, or why she ended up homeless. But we do know that she loves the attention and care she’s been receiving. She settled into her foster home rather quickly. She loves going in the car and running errands with her foster dad. Hershey gets along great with the other dogs in the home, and has even learned to be nice to the chickens that share her yard. (Supervised, of course!) She loves meeting other dogs, but will pull hard on the leash in excitement to get to them. Some training may be beneficial and fun for both her and her new human. Hershey loves getting her tummy and ears rubbed, and even loves getting a shower! Like so many Weims that have been kept outside for longer periods, her coat was in need of help. With a healthy new diet, fish oil, vitamins, shampoo treatments and brushing, her coat is already looking much healthier. Lucky Hershey is said to have beautiful long eyelashes….what all women yearn for! Hershey will make a wonderful new family member for someone that wants to share their home with a calm, sweet girl that deserves so much! If you are interested, please fill out our Adoption Application. She will need a home with no cats, and children must be over 10 years old. She is fostered in Santa Cruz. Spayed, UTD on Vaccinations and microchipped. To adopt Hershey, please fill out an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/212066727579162 |
ADOPTION PENDING! Joey is just two years old! His family has fallen on hard times, so they made the difficult decision to ask for help in finding him a new home. This young boy is absolutely full of energy! His family did not have the time and resources to put into training. NCWR is committed to helping him. However, he NEEDS a foster (maybe a foster that magically becomes a furever home)! With exercise, training, and consistency, we are confident Joey will develop into the amazing dog we know he can be. We are looking for a home with plenty of time to spend training Joey. He also has the separation anxiety that is so common among our Weim friends, so we are looking for a home with at least one stay at home or work from home parent. Joey was raised with a child. However, children should be over the age of 10, per our policy. He has no experience with cats, so a kitty-free home is best.

ADOPTION PENDING! Frankie is still looking for his forever home! He is a very energetic 8-year-old Weimaraner. This sweet boy is very well mannered. He absolutely loves going for walks/runs, having fun chasing squirrels and playing with toys. He also enjoys counter surfing, so he will help you keep your counters tidy and clean!
He absolutely loves all dog friends and is calm and submissive with them. He knows all basic commands and loves performing, especially for treats! Please watch his video! Frankie is house trained, but not crate trained. He does seem to have a degree of separation anxiety, so we are looking for a home for him with minimal alone time, such as a stay at home/work from home parent. His amazing foster mom has been working with him and he is good for a couple of hours alone, but not for a standard work day. Frankie was raised in a home with children and is gentle with them. However, we would prefer a home for Frankie him with kids over the age of 10, per our placement policy. He is living with other dogs in his foster home and gets along well with them. He has lived in a home with a cat in the past, so he might be ok in a home with a kitty (it may take time and patience). Frankie is neutered, up to date on vaccines and has received good vet care and is very healthy. |

Meet marvelous Maxx, a 6 year old male Weim that needs to find a new forever home to call his own.
Maxx is super handsome, a great age, and gets along with most everyone he meets! He will do well as either an only dog, soaking up all of your love and attention, or sharing his space with another, low key canine friend. Cats are unknown, therefore to be on the safe side, NO CATS. Kids, must be over 10 years old based on our adoption policies. He is ok left alone for a few hours, but prefers to be uncrated when left. He does love sleeping in his crate at night. Maxx is still young, and will benefit from daily exercise, some safe, off leash running, and some additional training....which are always recommended with all of our rescue Weims. Maxx is neutered, microchipped, up to date on Vaccines. We think if you will consider Maxx and meet him, you will fall in love! Please complete the adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/212066727579162 |
ADOPTION PENDING! Buddy is about 3 years old and is just as sweet as can be. He came to us from a shelter, so we do not know his history. He was found as a stray, but Buddy’s luck quickly changed. He has been in one of NCWR’s fabulous foster homes. He is house trained and his foster reports that he is a very calm boy (a rare find in a young Weimaraner). His foster says it took a bit of time for him to “come out of his shell.” However, he has evolved into a friendly and wonderful boy.
We are looking for a home for Buddy with minimal alone time and humans that have plenty of time to spend bonding in training Buddy. He is now neutered and up to date on vaccines. He even had a dental. Since we do not know his background, we do not know how he is with cats or small children or cats. Therefore, we are looking for a home for Buddy without kitties and children that are age 10 or older, per our placement policy. |
ADOPTION PENDING! Whiskey is a 10-year-old female. She has lived in the same home since she was a puppy. Sadly, she is being re-homed due to a change in a life situation with the owner.
We are told that she is great with children and good with other dogs. However, she can be a little timid/nervous at first, especially with smaller dogs, but then warms up. She loves going for walks and does well on leash. Whiskey does have some separation anxiety, so we are looking for a home for her with minimal alone time, such as a home with at least one stay at home or work from home parent. Whiskey loves people of all ages and was raised around children. However, children should be age 10 and up, per our placement policy. She has also been around cats in her home. We are told that she is curious at first, but has no aggression, so a home with a kitty if a possibility. She does have some small lipomas that are characteristic of the breed. Whiskey is spayed and we are getting her up to date on vaccines. |
Adoption Process
We strive to post most dogs that we intake on social media as well as our website. Once a dog is posted as “available for adoption” we will ask for applications for that particular dog. We will review, interview, and select the adopter most suitable for that Weimaraner’s needs. Due to constraints in volunteer availability, we may not be able to interview every applicant for every dog.
If you have already filled out an application to adopt and are interested in a particular dog on our website or Facebook, please send us an email to [email protected] or send us a message on Facebook.

Application and Approval
You must complete the entire application and approval process before meeting any of our rescue dogs. This process consists of completing an application using the button below, a phone interview, and a home visit (during the pandemic, we’ll ask for photos of your yard instead).

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees vary per adoption, ranging from $0 to $700 depending on many factors but primarily the dog’s age. Sometimes we need to spend very little on vet care, rehab etc. and sometimes we spend thousands to give a Weim a chance at a happy life.
If we based our fees on our costs for each dog respectively, young healthy dogs with small fees would be quite easy to place. Older dogs with issues and huge fees however would be very hard to place. Similar to insurance, our fee structure spreads our costs over all our rescues to make sure every dog finds a forever home.

Young Moki, a Great Weimar, (we thought) found herself in a shelter at 2 years old after being surrendered by her former family because of her size. NCWR stepped in and rescued her. After cross-posting Moki with NorCal Great Dane Rescue, where her new mom saw her and fell in love. Moki’s new mom says she is an absolute sweetheart even though she doesn’t realize her size or have any sense of personal space. Moki has a Corgi sibling who mom says totally bosses her around, which is really amusing. Moki’s mom did have her DNA tested and found she is 100% Great Dane. Mom says she will always be their honorary Weimaraner though. We are so happy for Moki and her new family.

Josie was pulled from a shelter by NCWR with a broken leg at only 1 year old. Her leg has healed beautifully and her new mom says she loves doing zoomies on the beach. She loves rocking her new rain wear. Josie also lives with bunnies who she has learned to cuddle with. Her mom says she is of course full of energy but very smart and very willing. Mom says the more Josie realizes she’s not going anywhere the more confident she is becoming. We are over the moon happy for Josie and her new mom.

Young Cooper was a beloved family member, who was in the same home since he was a puppy. However, family health circumstances caused the family to need a new home for Cooper, where he could get the time and attention a young Weim needs. His mom contacted NCWR to help find Cooper a new home. Of course, we were happy to help. Cooper is now in a home where he accompanies his dad to work every day and is getting tons of attention (aka) spoiled. We are very happy for Cooper and his new dad.

Three-year-old Huesito came to us from a family in Mexico, who had to move to a home where they could not keep him. His first stop was an amazing foster in San Francisco. Next, Huesito got caught up on some medical care that included a dental and an extraction. Last stop: His fantastic and loving foster family! You see, Huesito’s foster family decided to make this lucky boy a permanent member of their family, which includes mom, dad, and human kids who enjoy taking this lucky boy to the beach and many other fun activities! Congrats Huesito!

One-year-old Mordy is definitely a lucky boy! He came to us from a family in Redding, who could not give him the time, attention and training he needed. This wonderful boy was adopted by a family in a beautiful area located in the Sierra Foothills. Mordy is now a spoiled boy who gets tons of love and attention from his new mom and dad and enjoys hiking, camping and other outdoor adventures. What a lucky boy!

We are so happy to announce that amazing Aleeda is home! Her foster family has decided to keep her! How could they resist this smarty pants girl? This 12-year-old is a healthy, happy bundle of joy and energy loves to be active. In addition to all the basic commands, Miss Aleeda knows fun commands like “shake (both paws), sit pretty, play dead, roll over, and back up.” Aleeda’s new life includes mom, dad, human kids and fun activities with her canine sibling. Congratulations to Aleeda!

Max came to NCWR last year from a shelter and was adopted by a wonderful couple and gained a sweet four-legged sister in the process! Tragically and unexpectedly, both Max and her sister Zena lost their human dad and needed to come back to us. Because Max had a history of guarding her people, we put out the call for a special home that might consider keeping the girls together, as well as continue to work with Maxine on her training! As luck would have it a wonderful family applied with us and we are thrilled to report that Max and Zena have found their forever home—together! They have settled in beautifully with no issues into a family that realized right away how much love they had to give. Congratulations to these delightful and deserving girls!

Ada, now Bella, was surrendered by her owners who could not provide the attention and exercise she needed. A bit timid at first, Bella is unsure of change, but she is learning one important thing more and more each day—she’s home (and that she loves snow)! A family who had lost their previous Weim and very much missed having one, opened their heart and home to this little lady, and she is coming out of her shell thanks to an abundance of patience and love in her new digs in Reno. With two kids to also call her own, there is no shortage of attention, exercise, and fun for her now! Our best wishes to Bella and her new family.

Javi came to us as a very reactive pup, being surrendered by his owner who was not able to work with him on the training he needed. While Javi was in our care, we learned that he was an exceptionally loving dog and yes—super reactive! His training will be ongoing with his new owner who can not only provide company 100% of the time but also the guidance to work on the reactivity. As it turned out he was too stressed in city settings, but through a referral by one of our volunteers--Javi finally found his perfect match. His new dad is a Wildlife Biologist and was looking for a dog to train to work in the wilderness with him all day and hang out and chill all night. We decided this would be the perfect job for this active pup who always approaches everything with equal parts gusto and love. We can’t wait to see how this amazing guy matures with an experienced handler and tons of exercise and attention! Good boy, Javi!

Han Solo came to us late last summer with cataracts as well as exhibiting some seizure activity. It took months to stabilize the seizures and complete the required eye specialist consultation and testing. This wonderful boy finally received his cataract removal surgery in early December. Han’s foster family officially adopted him on Christmas day!
From an outdoor property dog that was blind-- to a young Weim that can see again--it's been an amazing journey for this handsome, sweet guy. All of this was made possible with an outpouring of financial support from our Weim community as well as that of his fosters' business in order to raise the necessary funds to cover the surgery. We can't thank you enough! |
Dear Oliver is being adopted by the family of his dreams. He is one year old and is a big boy that loves to play like a puppy! His new family consists of work from home Mom and two grown human kids with whom he will enjoy bonding by going for long walks, playing at the park and practicing obedience training. However, his favorite family member is an 18-month-old Sheep Doodle - Oliver's new canine sibling. The two youngsters love to play and roughhouse nonstop....Yes, a tired dog is a happy dog. Good boy Oliver! You landed in paradise!

Sadly, Gus was given up by his previous family who had given him to a friend. But great news for him, the person that received him knew just who to call to find him a wonderful home. This sweet guy loves to play and get the zoomies like most puppies--but unlike most of the dogs we get, he seemed to really like cats! Good news for his new family who had been waiting many, many months for a young dog that would not only peacefully coexist with their Ragdoll kitty but also play when the cat wants to play! Win-win! Gus, now known as Ody (short for Odysseus), will get tons of attention from his work from home dad, his son, and has a new buddy that looks almost as big as he is. He will enjoy all the trails and beach play near their Pleasanton area home. Congratulations Ody!

Midna's family could no longer care for her after they had a baby, and opted to reach out so that we could find her a wonderful new home that can handle that puppy energy with little alone time. We had someone waiting who had kitties as she does really well with them. She's now enjoying the great outdoors on hikes and runs in beautiful Pollock Pines!

Penny's family could no long keep her, so they made the difficult decision to contact NCWR to help. Of course, we were happy to help! Fate also stepped in....Her new family had lost their dear canine family member and had just decided it was time to heal their hearts and adopt a new furry family member. Penny is up to the challenge of filling that void and keeping her new mom and dad busy and entertained with love, laughter fun and activity. Good girl, Penny!

Beautiful Buddy had found himself in a shelter. That was when his luck changed.....NCWR stepped up and helped. First stop: One of NCWR's fabulous foster homes. Buddy's foster family succumbed to his handsomeness and charm. Last stop: Same as the first stop....his amazing foster family adopted him. Buddy now calls Mom, Dad and 3 children "home." We are so happy Buddy is home for the Holidays! Congratulations Buddy!

Buck's owner's job required that he travel extensively, so he contacted NCWR for help finding Buck a home where he could continue getting the time, attention and love that Buck was used to. Of course, we were happy to help! Handsome Buck was adopted by one of our wonderful past adopters, who had recently lost his dog. Buck now enjoys living in beautiful San Francisco and gets lots of attention, exercise and activities. We are so happy for Buck!
