Annie, the pups Mommy, was found by NCWR volunteer Carrie Dodson, late September near Rancho
Murieta. A vet check & ultrasound (gratis by Carrie's vet) found Annie to be very pregnant. Annie was
cared for by Foster Mom, Kate Crowder who successfully whelped the puppies about 1 week later.
Carrie Dodson took over from there & raised the pups into the bouncing, little butterballs, that Michael
& I picked up on November 18. Annie went to her forever home when the pups were adequately weaned.
Three families had been anxiously awaiting their pups arrival & had been approved even before the
puppies were born! Each family has its own story & how they came to be Puppy Parents.
I met Sandy Ferrando 2 years ago at the Sonoma County Howloween Party. Sandy & husband John, had
just lost their Weimaraner, Garbo. A while later, Sandy & John adopted a rather unruly Sadie. That
didn't work out & Sandy & John waited for the next great match. Sandy & John again attended the
Howloween Party this year, just to see Jade as a Mermaid & Gianni as a fisherman. The next day, they
came to the Gala. That's what I call a fan! Their patience was rewarded & they now have the gorgeous
little Stella!
We placed Mercury with Judy & Randy in early October. Mercury had some aggression problems & was
returned. Since Judy was gun shy about her trial period with Mercury & had lots of Weimaraner
experience, I offered her a puppy. Judy became a great supporter of NCWR. The couple donated food to
the Gala & Judy worked with Kathy Dunn all day in the kitchen at the Gala. Judy & Randy now have the
feisty little Sheba.
Joshua & Heidi Schipper were very anxious to add a Weimaraner to their family of 3 small children &
their well behaved Boston Terrer, Abby. Joshua & I had many conversations (interspersed with IMs & e
mail!). We just didn't have rescue dogs at the time that were reliable with children. I told Joshua that if
he was patient (extremely a difficult thing for Joshua), I might reward him with a puppy. Joshua &
Heidi now have the regal, Duke, named after King George, the first dog on the website they wanted!
Sandy & Ryan Short had been waiting to have a Weimaraner to hunt with, having always had German
Shorthair Pointers. They really wanted a girl, but when I told Sandy I only had a boy left, they jumped
at the opportunity. We tested the pups birdiness at the Shower & they now have Bullet, a very birdy
little boy!
Tim & Lori Murchison were our latest family addition. I wasn't in a hurry to place the last boy, taking
my time deciding among several homes. But, I was intrigued by their application. Tim & Lori had just
lost their beloved, 12 year old Weimaraner & they seemed like a perfect fit for the last boy puppy.
Even though, I thought it would be fun to have the remaining puppy for a week while I mulled things
over, I decided to give Tim a call. I grilled him un mercilessly & then told him we had a 7 week old
puppy available. If we could get his Home Visit done that night, would be be available to come to
Rohnert Park to pick up his puppy the next day? Tim knew a great opportunity & said yes!
It was Tim's Birthday that day & they had just picked up the ashes of their Weimaraner the day before.
Tim & Lori now have their wonderful Beau!
All beautiful stories & perfect beginnings; many thanks to everyone who made this miracle happen;
Kate Crowder, who successfully whelped the litter & cared for the newborns.
Carrie Dodson, who found Annie & cared for the pups from 1 1/2 weeks to 6 1/2 weeks. Dana Giese, who
took Annie into NCWR and coordinated her and her puppies' foster home and vet care, and Lyn
Williams and Kim McNamara who assisted with application interviews and scheduling home
inspections.
The puppies went home with gift bags of toys, new collars, puppy food, birth certificates & baby
blankets with the scent of their littermates!
Thank you to Judy & Randy Smith for hosting the wonderful party, providing food & dessert & Sandy
Short for the adorable shower gifts for all the puppies!
